Dan Rooney Loves Obama, Not his Tax Policies

Why Dan Rooney fell for Obama
(The Pittsburgh Steeler's Boss)

There is something that strikes me as strange in the article.

Mr. Rooney supported this guy for the following reasons???

"This is the greatest speech I've seen since John Kennedy," Dan said into the phone. "This guy connects with people like no one I've seen since John Kennedy. He convinced me that this is more than just a good politician. I want to stand up and say something for this guy. I want to be involved in this."

Because he gives a good speech.
Because people swoon over Obama.

"It's something he chose to get involved with and from my standpoint it has a lot to do with his legacy, and that's something that's important to me," he said. "His support of Obama is much more macro than micro; it's based on themes and not specific policy initiatives. There are a lot of things on which he disagrees with Obama. But he sees those themes as universal and critical.

Because he doesn't support Obama on a lot of things that are unimportant, yet he supports him on themes that are universal and critical, and he supports Obama on his legacy. What kind of double talk is that? What themes is he talking about. Obama's lies, Obama's false promises, Obama's pandering for votes that he indeed got, Obama's double talk, Obama's background affiliations, Obama's promise to talk with terriost nations (with no pre conditions), and Obama's.... Give me a break...

You bet, when I saw the Steeler's number 8 jersey given to Obama, it made me mad. If I here one more time about a blind visceral connection to Obama, which the lovers of Obama keep on stating, it will be one time too many times for me.

Now Dan Rooney is no dummy and he is not blind to what is going to happen to tax policies in 2009. Rooney knows that he will likely be hit with new taxes. So he now is trying to close up a deal prior to the end of 2008, because he knows Obama's tax plan is likely to be retroactive to the beginning of 2009.

They love Obama but not his taxes

"Last week, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that the other four Rooney brothers had stepped up efforts to complete an agreement to sell their shares in the team to Dan Rooney and his son, Art, before the first of the year. They want to present details to the NFL's finance committee in time for the league owners meeting Dec. 17 in Dallas."

What they plan to do is perfectly legal, but isn't there something unseemly about it? When you campaign for a candidate who promises to raise taxes on the wealthy and then rush to wrap up the deal of a lifetime to avoid a bigger tax bill, you leave yourself open to a lot of backlash. After all, as Joe Biden put it, wouldn't it be more patriotic to wait until you could pay a bigger share? Read the complete article at the Observer-Reporter.com

A Week to Digest The President Elect

Well, the country has had a little over a week to digest the election results.

It looks to me like the stock market hasn't had a miraculous change in prognostication. If anything, it looks like the outlook for things are going to get worse. Now, some of you may be thinking that we shouldn't think any negative thoughts because that seems very unsettling for the soul. We'll it doesn't hurt to prepare yourself for what is likely to come. As the old Boy Scott motto says, "Be prepared." Prepare for the worst, but pray for the best. As you probably noticed I added pray for the best instead of hope for the best.

Now that Obama is our President Elect, we must pray that he doesn't screw up our nation beyond repair. Let's pray for him too. However, if change is what 51% of the voters wanted, change is what we are going to get. Another saying is, "Be careful for what you ask for, because you might get it."

Let's think about this for a moment. Obama was asked if he was going to implement his tax plan on the top 5% of companies to increase their taxes, or cut taxes for the 95% of other people. He never answered the question but instead stated his tax plan "would have" done this or done that. Very subtle change in his speech pattern from the day before the election to a few days after the election. Days before the election he was saying his tax plan will do this or will do that. Now he is already changing his tune. This is the change that 51% of America wanted??? Give me a break. He never intended to honor any of his promises (except what he can get away with), nor will he go to the center for government leading. We are in for a government extreme like this country has never seen before.

OK, yes I am getting upset here, but I pray that Obama doesn't follow his promise to implement his tax plan on the companies that are making a profit today. If you think the stock market has taken a nosedive in recent weeks, just wait till you see the hammer come down on this. Companies are dropping like flies right now; if Obama does what he promised, and taxes those other companies at the top, you can bet that it will make the economy worse. You think these companies have deep pockets? Think again. Look what happened during the Great Depression. Read the following article: How FDR's New Deal Harmed Millions of Poor People. Remember, those that don't study history are doomed to repeat it, and I do fear that we are doomed to repeat history once again.

Since we are coming up with a number of sayings, we need to look at the Law of unintended consequences. We live in a global economy today. This recession that we are in, is global in nature. We must not forget that. A number of Americans live in a cocoon world, and think that everything is black or white when it comes to taxes on the wealthy. Liberals want to feel good about themselves, and it is easy to give other peoples' money away in the form of government spending initiatives. But government spending is not the answer. Reducing government is the answer. Once you create a government program, it is near impossible to remove it from the government bankrolls. The government entity becomes a hungry mouth to feed. It hires people that are very nonproductive, and the next thing you know we have 5% of the people in the country trying to support the other 95% through tax and spend policies.

The only thing that government tax and spend policies provides is more voters to vote for the same people or types of people to do more tax and spend.

So, my gut feeling, after seeing Obama after the election at press conferences, seeing what types of people he is placing around him, a new chief of staff, "who has a reputation as a tough, hard, take-no-prisoners, head-in-your-face, scream-and-shout, send-them-a-dead-fish partisan" quoted Karl Rove, from an article in the New York Times; we can only conclude that Obama is headed toward the far left.

So, if you want to place your head in the sand, and take the attitude that you can't make a change for the better, and say to yourself the serenity prayer, "God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, have courage to change the things I can, and have the wisdom to know the difference," and fall on the section to accept these things I cannot change, you are free to do so. However, I pray as a nation that we don't settle for an attitude of mediocrity, that an individual or individuals can not make a difference today, because I don't buy it.

Upon thinking about this, I think we need to pray a lot for our nation, to have the courage to say what is right, to do the right thing, even if it is "A voice of one calling in the desert...," even when the world around them is falling apart at the seams. By-way-way, John stood up for what was right, got thrown in prison, had his head chopped off, and served on a platter. But, he made a difference that will forever last. You have to ask yourself today, will I make a difference that will last?

In a recent article by Ann Coulter, Eighty-Four Percent Say They'd Never Lie To A Pollster, she looks at the polls leading up to the presidential elections of the past.

It is interesting to note that the polling data has always been skewed in the Democrats favor prior to the actual election.

Reviewing the polls printed in The New York Times and The Washington Post in the last month of every presidential election since 1976, I found the polls were never wrong in a friendly way to Republicans. When the polls were wrong, which was often, they overestimated support for the Democrat, usually by about 6 to 10 points.

The most worrisome aspect of Obama's economic plan is that he would raise tax rates in a weak economy. I know of no sensible economic theory that says that increasing taxes, or even planning to increase taxes, in a recession is a good idea. Rather, it is flawed economics. Raising taxes could turn a recession into a depression, and would significantly harm middle-class families. No matter how you look at it, McCain's economic plan helps the middle class much more than Obama's.

Obama Doesn't Get It!

Obama would meet on a one on one basis, face to face, from the President of the United States position, without any pre-conditions, with leaders from countries such as the likes of Iran, Syria, and North Korea.

Wow, what better way of gaining creditability in the world, as a leader of Iran, who publicly states that he wants to wipe out Israel from the face of the earth, than by meeting face to face with the President of the United States of America, the leader of the most powerful nation on earth, the leader of the free world, a nation that prides itself on doing the right thing, and a nation with a background of having Judeo-Christian values; without having any pre-conditions for a face to face meeting with the President of the United States of America.

Senator Obama, you don't get it!

First term Senator Obama is very naive and dangerous for our nation, if he thinks these crazy leaders, who are totally out to destroy everything the US stands for, wouldn't jump at a chance to gain creditability in the eyes of the world by a face to face meeting with the President of the United States of America. It's not a question of talking or not talking with countries, it's a question of should the President talk without any pre-conditions. Obama would give creditability to these crazy leaders if he is given the chance to.

To Regulate or Not - That is the Question

Obama continues his pitch trying to get people to believe that the overall lack of regulation in general, and the Bush Administration in particular, led to the financial crisis we are now in – no regulation of mortgage lenders, these banks that are now all going bust. In reality, just the opposite is true.

If you go back to the Clinton years, a good case could be made for the fact that OVER regulation is the root cause of our current problems. It was during the Clinton Administration that regulations were put in place to force lenders to make home loans to those who would not previously qualify under the guise of "making home ownership available to all". This has been a mantra of the Democratic Party for many years.

As Megan McArdle put it so well when she said, "This was not some criminal activity that the Bush administration should have been investigating more thoroughly; it was a thorough, massive, systemic mispricing of the risk attendant on lending to people with bad credit." She gives a great analysis of this whole issue in her posting yesterday focusing on how Obama is seeking to blame the current crisis on the Bush Administration.

That posting was so well read that many people posted their own comments on "What Bush Should Have Done". She then followed up with today's blog posting where she provides additional in depth analysis of the cause and effect. As she says in summary, "Democrats seem unable, or unwilling to grasp, that to the extent that this is a regulatory problem, the seeds were laid under Clinton, not Bush. There simply haven't been any significant financial regulatory changes over the last eight years that we can point to as the culprit; nor does "stronger enforcement" work as the solution to a crisis when the companies in trouble seem to have been in full compliance with the law."

ABC Intentionally Misrepresents "Holy War"

Charlie Gibson and Company intentionally tried to misrepresent Sarah Palin's comments regarding our mission in Iraq.

As stated on FoxNews.com, "The exchange between Palin and ABC’s Charlie Gibson, in which she questioned the accuracy of the quote attributed to her, was edited out of the television broadcast but included in official, unedited transcripts posted on ABC’s Web site, as well as in video posted on the Internet."

Once again the mainstream media tries to slant everything the way they think, and the way they want us to think. Thanks, but no thanks ABC. I prefer to think for myself.

Why is the Associated Press deliberately twisting Gov. Sarah Palin's words on foreign policy?

In an interview of Sarah Palin, Charles Gibson asked the following according to an AP story:


Asked whether the United States would have to go to war with Russia if it invaded Georgia, and the country was part of NATO, Palin said: "Perhaps so."

"I mean, that is the agreement when you are a NATO ally, is if another country is attacked, you're going to be expected to be called upon and help," she said.

The Price of Freedom

I remember our Dad telling us to never forget Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941. Well, now we need to tell our children to never forget 9.11.2001.


Both events took our nation down deep to the depth of our souls. I was not around for the Pearl Harbor attack which plunged us into World War II, but I will never forget where I was, on that surreal morning of 911. Driving from our home in San Ramon, CA to Silicon Valley early Tuesday morning, I turned on the radio to hear what sounded too crazy to believe a news story of what was happening in New York City. After shock and disbelief, my next thoughts turned to what was going on. I arrived at the place of work, and saw they had a television turned on with everyone gathered around, in shocked disbelief, watching the first World Trade Center burning. Reports came in that other airplanes were involved. Then the Pentagon. Then another plane plows into the other World Trade Center tower. Then one of the towers came tumbling down. After the feelings of shock and disbelief somewhat subsided then anger set in. I was angry with what these terrorists had done to us as a nation and for the loss of innocent life.

On this day, my thoughts go out to the families that have lost loved ones and our Military, and am thankful that they are fighting the fight of freedom for us all. Sure there are people in this country that don't appreciate what the price of freedom is for them, but our military men and women our fighting for them too. The world is much smaller today than ever before. We must never forget and always keep up the good fight today, tomorrow, and forever. This is the price of freedom. Never Forget!

On Sarah Palin's flight back to Fairbanks, the reporters on board did not learn much about her other than the fact that the beverage of choice for both John McCain and Sarah Palin is Diet Dr. Pepper.

According to Shushannah Walshe on FoxNews.com, they also learned that when it comes to candy, McCain over rules everyone and takes the whole container to his seat.

Lipstick On a Pig - No Mistake About It

Senator Barack Obama miscalculated big time on this one. Thinking he would get away with using what up until now has been a common, and sometimes overused phrase in politics, this time his use of putting lipstick on a pig with a thinly veiled reference to Sarah Palin just might be his undoing. As Jim Lindgren put it in The Volokh Conspiracy,

"It is not just a case of plausible deniability; the speechwriters were trying to be witty. By referring to McCain and Palin’s ideas using colorful language that will cause his audience to think of the actual people Palin and McCain, Obama was almost certainly trying to come right up to the line between acceptable and unacceptable insults without actually crossing it. That Obama's crowd understood the allusion to Palin is suggested by the enthusiastic cheers that started even before he finished the pig sentence. Without seeing the Palin connection, would they have cheered in the middle of him uttering an otherwise completely ordinary cliche?"

"Was Obama calling Palin a pig and McCain a stinky old fish? No, it would be too crude to do – and he didn’t directly do so."

"But when Obama talked about a pig and a fish, was he slyly referring to them personally? Almost certainly. Very likely, this paired comparison was intended to be a Palin-style sharp, but good natured insult.
